CHRISTOPHER LEWIS

Born 1957

Christopher Lewis was born in Adelaide in 1957. A graduate of the Queensland College of Art in 1977, he has lived and painted in Sydney since 1978. In that year he had his exhibiting debut in the Still Life Exhibition at Robin Gibson Gallery in Sydney alongside artists such as Brett Whitely and Tim Storrier. Christopher Lewis has held 11 solo exhibitions in Sydney and has been a finalist in the Wynne Prize at the AGNSW on three occasions.

The artist’s hard edged urban realist paintings have been described as having the cool penetration of a scalpel. His paintings of Sydney describe a landscape where the harbour, the beautiful green spaces, the laneways and the rooftops of the inner city create a visual poetry of enchanting stillness.
