JASPER KNIGHT

Born 1978

Jasper Knight was born in Sydney in 1978 and remains Sydney based. In 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2010 Jasper was a finalist in the Archibald Prize. He was also exhibited in the Wynne Prize in 2005 and 2006. In 2006, Knight was awarded an Australia Council New Work grant, the Freedman Foundation Scholarship and The Rocks Art Prize. He has also been a finalist in the Blake Prize, The ABN-Amro Prize, The Mosman Art Prize, The Helen Lempriere Prize and the Brett Whiteley Prize.

Knight has shown in numerous venues, including every major artist-run space in Sydney. He started the Half Dozen Artist-run Initiative and it has since shown over 150 artists in four countries. In 2007 he opened Chalk Horse Gallery in Sydney with the generous support of the Australia Council and the City of Sydney. The same year Knight had exhibitions in Berlin, London, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. Today his work is regularly exhibited in art fairs and prizes in Australia and overseas.

In 2008 Berkeley Editions published two silkscreens with Knight, which is a diptych titled Resolve and General VIII and Mesina and Merit.
